Copra, copra cake, palm cake, frozen fish and charcoal become the best export commodities from North Sulawesi to the Philippines in 2011. This was said by the Head Foreign Trade Department, Industry & Trade Agency of North Sulawesi, Hanny Wajong.
“Up to the first semester of 2011, the export realization to the Philippines has reached into USD 2,68 million with export product volume of 9,28 million kgs. The biggest export to Philippines is copra which has generated domestic exchange into USD1,44 million, followed by copra cake with USD782,75 thousand, palm cake with USD244,2 thousand, frozen fish USD 122,15 thousand and charcoal USD97,1 thousand,” Wajong said.
The Head of Export Import Section, Trade & Industry Agency, Daby Nerwan said, this export to our neighbour country has been increased every year. “It shows higher increased export compared to the former year, and it is expected to be more higher in the next year, if North Sulawesi is able to use Glan City, beside Davao, as an export destination area,” Daby said.
She added, in relation with the increased of marine transportation to the Philippines, the government of North Sulawesi has met with the Philippines Business, in order to find good solution toward trade development. “There was direct marine transportation from North Sulawesi to the Philippines, in particular to Glan City. But not anymore, so this will be proposed to do re-open,” Daby said.
Marina transportation, Daby said, needs ballancing, in order to have loaded incoming and outgoing shipping, from The Philippines to North Sulawesi, and the other way around.
