Product capacity of coconut oil in North Sulawesi during 2010 has been going down compared to 2009. Based on data from North Sulawesi Trade and Industry Agency, production capacities of six cooking oil from big manufactures in North Sulawesi have sharply decreased. The decreasing product has been caused by lack of supply of crude coconut oil (CCO) raw material. Production of PT. Agro Makmur Raya in year 2009 was 101,009 tons, and in 2010 decreased into 99,009 tons. PT. Multi Nabati Sulawesi, in 2009 for 201,500 ton, in 2010 went down to 200,755 tons. PT. Salim IVOMAS, production in 2009 was 48,000 tons went down to 17,000 tons and PT. Royal Coconut was only 1,525 tons in year 2010 increased into 1,694 tons.
“These six companies have not passed their product capacities in each company” said the Head of Trade and Industry of North Sulawesi, Sanny Parengkuan, said. He said that the demand of raw material is big, however this is not to be compared with coconut production that are supplied from Gorontalo, Palu and Ternate. “Production has been decreased but in small amount since the market is still slow”, described Parengkuan. However, he is optimistic on this condition will not affected the market demands. “Cooking oil is still abundantly available in the market,” said Parengkuan again. “We do still have enough raw material in our area, no need to worry as the raw material is enough for every year’s demand,” finalized Parengkuan briefly.
