Welcome to North Sulawesi Province, the land of waving coconut trees!
It is my honour as the Governor of North Sulawesi Province to welcome you, to discover and to explore our province yourself, and to offer you assistance by me and the people of North Sulawesi.
North Sulawesi is “a land of opportunity and a conducive place for doing business.” With its economic potential and opportunities in agriculture, fishery, tourism, and international trade which are supported by qualified human resources and required infrastructures, North Sulawesi offers a significant number of investment and business opportunities to be explored by interested parties.
In the agriculture and plantation sector as one of the economic prime movers of North Sulawesi development, it consists of several primary commodities such as rice, corn, fruits and vegetables, clove, nutmeg, vanilla, coconut, among others. Among these primary agricultural commodities, coconut plays an important role economically and socially in North Sulawesi people life.
North Sulawesi Province generates the second largest coconut production in Indonesia after Riau Province. Compared to other provinces, North Sulawesi has the benefit of higher yield due to better growing conditions with fertile volcanic soils and suitable climate. Most of the coconuts produced which have undergone certain kind of processing are exported to several countries. Hence, North Sulawesi shares approximately one third in terms of national export revenue from coconut.
Given this significant contribution of the coconut sector of North Sulawesi, I acknowledge and fully support the establishment and online launching of the Coconut Market Information Centre (CMIC) initiated and facilitated by BIMP-EAGA, North Sulawesi Executive Secretariat, and with a technical assistance from the Canada Indonesia Private Sector Enterprise Development (CIPSED). This online service provides information aimed at coconut producers, buyers, stakeholders and interested parties so that not only it will enrich and share knowledge but also will give a competitive edge in the coconut industry, marketing and business for them.
Finally, I hope this effort by BIMP-EAGA, North Sulawesi Executive Secretariat, to coordinate multi stakeholders (governmental and private) participation in sharing and providing information to the CMIC online database will enhance better cooperation, result in a concerted online service to the coconut industry and business as a whole, and strengthen the notion that North Sulawesi is the land of waving coconut trees. Thank you!
